The Sunday after going live, Pastor Parries encouraged his congregation to “Text somebody and let them know we’re going live on our own site! Tell them you want to see this today!”

Last month I worked with Pastor Parries in Orlando to bring into fruition a “virtual church” through the Christian Family Worship Center’s website.  This is an outreach driven website created to reach people in their homes.

One area of the site asks, “Have to work? Can’t go to church? Moved to another city? Miss your church? Or called to duty in another country? Where can you find Christian fellowship? The Bible tells us not to neglect our meeting  together. What do you do? … We invite you to become a part of our virtual church.”

The site explains how and why to get involved in this Christian fellowship, not just through the live broadcasts on Sundays and Thursdays, but everyday through

-          an archive of sermons

-          an online bookstore

-          small groups which meet via conference calls weekly and through Facebook daily

-          events advertised on the home page

And more!

The work that Pastor Parries has put into building the site, engaging his own members and reaching beyond “the church doors”, I believe, will not return void!

Check out my interview with Barbara Taylor at Central Church of the Nazarene in Covington, KY. They have one of faithHighway’s Website Outfitters websites.

1. Can you give me some background about the church and how long have you been there?

First Church of the Nazarene was built in 1941 in Ludlow, KY and was moved to a newly built church building in 1967 and is now under the name of Central Church of the Nazarene.  It is located on a lovely four acre plot viewable from I 75 in Northern Kentucky. Our prayer is that Central Church shall be a church for all people to worship God.

2. How are you using your website to increase member involvement?

We are using Evite to invite our friends and family to our church.  We are using the on-line calendar to keep our members and the community informed of church activities and events.  We are uploading the pastor’s messages so those that are shut-in and can not attend church can still be part of the church service.  We are providing web links to VBS online games and other resources.  We also plan to add a blog and other items in the near future.

3. How has the use of technology changed the way you do church?

By all the things listed above.  We tape our pastor’s messages for uploading, etc.

4. How has the use of technology helped your church change lives?

We feel that we need to reach beyond the church-house doors to touch the lives of the unsaved who may not be quite ready to come to church but are still interested in the word of God.  Through the web site they have the opportunity to explore the church in the comfort of their own homes until they are ready to take the next step.

5. How has your experience with faithHighway benefited the church?

faithHighway has been a God-send.  Their trained professionals are friendly, helpful, understanding, patient, and always available to talk to you about any web concerns you may have.  The web program is really easy to navigate and to learn; especially with a tech person there to talk on the phone with you at the time you need them, not a week later. I can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful experience I have had with faithHighway.  My case manager is like a friend to me.

Our standard target audience and our average clients here at faithHighway are churches across the world.  It’s always a treat getting to work with churches in various cities, states and countries.  But it’s also fun when the clients I work with are not the standard church client.  This summer I worked with two pregnancy centers, and both sites are going live soon!

Check them out at:

Both organizations use volunteers to minister to a deep need in young girls this day in age, so it’s great to be a part of the work they are doing.  Each site has a fresh and inviting design and tells a story through the flash on the home page to draw the viewer in.

The content set up at Ifitspositive.com is really spectacular.  With this being their second website with faithHighway, Melissa and Sommer have really learned the ropes and put best practices into play on this site.  The content is scanable, formatted consistently, incorporates appropriate images and is interactive! The site also has a custom inside page design for the right side bars which display quick links, testimonies, contact information and any other key points.  Plus they’ve done a great job with virtual tour videos through YouTube!

I’m excited about these two new sites going live and the number of people that will be reached… and lives literally saved… through these two non-profits.

Colors are powerful! They represent feelings and actions that we are supposed to have when we see those colors. When you see a red sign, you automatically think “stop.” When you see a “green” light, you think “go.”

So, what do all those colors mean in terms of using them on your website? What feelings and actions are you encouraging your visitors to feel? Below is a list to consider when choosing color schemes for your website. Still unsure about what colors to use? One of our consultants can help guide you through the web design process. Don’t hesitate to give us a call!

Red: energy, war, danger, strength, power, passion, desire, love

Orange: joy, sunshine, enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, success, encouragement

Yellow:  intellect, joy, happiness, energy, honor loyalty

Green: growth, harmony, freshness, safety, money

Blue: depth, stability, trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, heaven

Purple: royalty, nobility, power, ambition

White: light, goodness, innocence, purity, safety
